Recently I have rediscovered the difficulties of rural volunteer fire service. Retention and recruitment are a common and ongoing problem. The root of this problem in my opinion is the "good ole boys" club. Personally I see the dire service as a business, and our business is saving life and if possible property. I am not a fan of elections as they are a popularity contest, but appointing officers have the same problem. When must we move from they have always been in that position so it is theirs, to the best person for the job fills the position. This mind set if why I will never be a chief officer. I refuse to play the games and buddy up to gain favor. See you at the big one...Live Action...JJ
