Welcome back, it's been a while but we have another review for you. This time we have decided to review the Guardian Angel Ultra emergency/rescue light. This light boasts some impressive specifications so lets jump right into it. From the get go the Guardian angel gives off a good impression. The item itself is well packaged in an attractive and protective box. It probably has the shortest USB type C cable that I have ever seen, but it is appropriate.
For me the initial charge took about an hour though your specific time could always vary some. The charge indicator is on the front center and is a clearly visible LED flashing light. The light pattern changes from a single flash to a double flash when fully charged making it easy to see when the unit is fully charged.
Getting into the specifics of the light itself a bit more we can look at the layout. The buttons are clearly indicated on the device itself and also listed on the website and on the included manual. Colors are true and as expected. We got an emergency red and white and they were clear and easily visible.
We also got ours with an IR indicator. These can sometimes be somewhat of a disappointment due to not being sufficiently powered or not being a true IR indicator. This one however was appropriate and worked just as we were hoping it would. We tend to like this option as it will work well with night vision and thermal cameras. This makes it a wonderful option for a landing zone marker especially at night. This is important when you want to have a clearly visible location marker, but don't want to compromise responder vision with visible light. Speaking of visible distance we tested the light in non flash mode finding during the day visibility was ¼ mile and at night visibility of greater than 1 mile (the limit of our testing area).
The full run time will vary some based on what light mode you are in. The website boasts a 150 run time (though this is not in full flash mode, but just the standard lower level light). We tested in full flash mode and the light lasted 24 hours before the battery was depleted. This is still impressive given that it's a full flash pattern running constantly.
Mounting options are as numerous as your imagination for this style of device. They all come with a rare earth magnetic mount, additionally the ultra comes with a hook and loop magnetic base. This opens you up to multiple connection surfaces and allows it to be deployed in a larger span of situations. Additionally you can purchase other mounts from the company to meet various situations you may encounter or as we often do, think of new ways you can mount or fasten the device while in use.
We hope that you found this review helpful and feel free to reach out if you have any questions/concerns.
