Nightstick Intergritas Review

In the fire service, we don’t just operate from 6:00 to 20:00. Quite often we find our selves operating at night, in low visibility situations within building or other enclosures. While many of us often carry gear mounted or helmet mounted lights, sometime more light is needed in a given situation, in order to perform our task safely. For this, we call upon the hand held, or shoulder carried lantern. As technology has advanced, these have turned from heavy, bulky lights with low lumen output to lightweight, compact and high lumen output devices. The Integritas lantern from Nightstick is an excellent example of this new philosophy.
Picking up the light, you can tell it is a quality light with solid build quality. When you open the box your greeted with the light, a charging base, a wall adapter, and a cigarette lighter adapter. Consider the light itself. It weighs 2 lbs 11 oz., the body of the light is constructed of glass filled nylon for durability and impact resistance. It features 4 led main beams on the front of the light and two green leds to mark the rear of the light. Also, under the handle is the charge indicator which shows red while charging and changes to green when charging is complete. Charging time is obviously dependent on how dead the battery is, however, in my experience it has never taken more than 4-8 hours to fully charge.
Charging the light is very simple. There are two grooves on either side of the light which align with positive grooves on the charging base. It is rated at 1750 lumen on its high output mode with a run time of approximately 5 hours, and 600 lumen for 11 hours on its low power mode. Switching between these modes is as simple as turning the light on with a single press and holding the switch down to switch between light modes.
In a year of deploying this light as my personal light, I have had nothing but positive experiences with it. From the pouring rain to heat/humidity of our Kentucky summers, it has never failed to operate. The light is easy to use with either gloved or non gloved hands. Its small size ensures it does not interfere with other equipment I am using such as SCBA, hand tools or a hose line. I have used the light during interior, and exterior firefighting. Also have used it during extrication activities, and basic search and rescue activities.
In the fire industry there are some commonly known flashlights that would be similar to the one. One such light is the well known Streamlight litebox, this is the light I used from the day I joined the fire service. This light was known for its low light output (150 lumen) and its heavy weight (7.4lbs). Next came the Streamlight Firebox, an improvement with 615 lumen but sill a heavy weight (7.9 lbs). Finally, we reach a light with similar specifications, the Streamlight Vulcan 180 with 1200 lumen and a similar weight of 2.47 lbs.
Other than emergency services, these are intrinsically safe lights meaning they can be used in spark danger and other inhospitable environments. I have also used my light while hiking and boating and off roading. A flashlight has many used and we should not limit ourselves to only the marketed use of a product.
Comparing the Vulcan to the Integritas, I can tell that they are both good quality lights. Having used Streamlight products most of my life, I was naturally reluctant to try something different. As we all know there are two things all firefighters hate; The way things are and change. Joking aside, when I was in contact with the my representative Brett from the Public Safety Store, he was telling me about the nightstick brand. Given the information presented to me, I thought it would be worth a go. Price was good for a rechargeable light, at ~ $200 at the time of this article.
If your new to Nightstick products, I highly recommend you giving them a look. Thanks for reading...Live Action...
