Bunker Gear Diaper Bag

So you say you have a bunch of stuff that you need a way to pack around.  But at the same time you want a bag that’s not like everything else that anyone can get at the local store, or with 2-day shipping online.  You want your bag to say something about who you are and what you stand for?  Well a recycled gear bag may be what you need.

Ok to start out there are a lot of different options out there and a lot of different companies that you can purchase these from.  I will always suggest that you look into the company that you’r planning to purchase from to make sure you both like their business model and that you are getting a quality product.

The bag that I’m gong to be basing this review off of is one that I have used on and off fairly heavily (and not at all gently) for the past 3+ years.  It has been used as everything from a suitcase duffel, to a snack bag, to a diaper bag.  It has been tossed, squashed, and generally abused as most bags like this are.  It has taken quite a bit of abuse over the years.

Its initial purpose was to be a personalized diaper bag for my first child.  Coming from a family where there was a history of being in the fire service on both sides of the family and where his dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather were all members in multiple dqpartmeths it was important for us to include this important piece of his history for him from the start.

The company that we used was able to both personalize the bag with our name and include personal embroidery with both of the major fire departments in our lives at that time. We were also able to get an American flag patch on one of the side pockets.  We were given multiple options on the color of the material used based on actual fabrics that they had available.  We chose to keep with the TAN color that his local dqpartmeths used.  WE also had the option of having the interior of the bag have traditional turnout lining or having this be new fabric.  We felt that by keeping with the original (all the fabric used was extensively cleaned before it was used in any part of the project) we were not only being more authentic, but also that it was more likely to last because of the durability factor.

This bag has also worked extremely well in multiple uses because of the many pockets.  It is equipped with 3 internal pockets (kind of similar to a flap pocket you  might find on the inside of a jacket). They do not have any closures but work well to help to work as a home to keep smaller items from being lost in the interior of the bag.  It also has 4 external pockets that can be used without opening the main compartment.  These pockets are they only place on the bag that I have seen any real ware. This ware is due to the general abuse that the bag has been put through over the years and is only on the external layer.  The pockets themselves are still completely usable without worry of loss of contents.  The fasteners for the bag are also authentic dee ring and snap hook closures.  This is great because for those failure with their use they are extremely easy to operate (even one handed while holding an infant).  They are also extremely strong and reliable.  The shoulder strap is also  a heavy duty one that is completely adjustable.

The materials used in the production of this bag really add to its authenticity (we actually have the original production information/name tag from the inside of someones original jacket as part of our bag liner).  Their use also adds to the safety factor of the bag.  I know that the bag is going to continue to be durable.  It’s also going to be visible.  Not only is it clearly our bag (no mistaking my name in 3 inch letters across the top) but the reflective used to this day still shows clearly in low light levels.  This means if someone is carrying it and my son across a dark parking lot they will see that flash of reflective clear as day if any form of light hits it.

I will warn you that there can be a bit of a waitlist for this items (especially the more cost you want them) and that they can be pricy. Overall for me though, this is absolutely a worthwhile purchase.  It is one of the only items we purchased for my son before he was born that we still use (that has survived us).  Thanks for reading and live action.
